Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus).

Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) also known as Huangqi is one of the most widely used herbs in traditional Chinese medicine. Astragalus root is used as a general tonic, immune-stimulant, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepato-protectant, diuretic, antidiabetic, anticancer, and expectorant and has been found to contain more than 100 compounds including flavonoids, saponins, polysaccharides, amino acids, and other compounds with a wide variety of biological effects. Astragalus is an important immune-stimulant and has been shown to enhance natural immune defence mechanisms, with improvement in both specific immunity and the non‐specific immunity that includes promotion of interferon production and increase activity against, influenza and other viruses.
